Think about asking a marketer or a company owner what they want most in the world, they'll probably say more consumers. What usually follows that? More visitors to their website. In fact, 61% of marketers say generating traffic and leads is their most difficult task. Increasing website traffic is a common aim among many business owners and marketers, whether you own an e-commerce store or a brick-and-mortar store. Your website is your online store, where visitors may learn more about your products and services, gain trust in your brand, and eventually become leads and customers.
However, having a nice, easy-to-navigate website will not result in more consumers if no one can discover it in the first place. This article will teach you how to be noticed online as well as
many more methods to help you generate passive website traffic so you can optimize your exposure. I'll go over;
● What excellent website traffic entails and why it is essential.
● Free and paid techniques to increase traffic to your website.
● Traffic generation strategies which you need to avoid.

What excellent website traffic entails and why it is essential.
Website traffic refers to the number of people who visit a website. Web traffic is measured in visits, sometimes known as "sessions," and is a standard approach to assess an online business's ability to attract customers.
Web traffic is important — Why?
When ecommerce first took off in the 1990s, web traffic was viewed as the most important metric for determining a website's popularity because other metrics to gauge online success did
not yet exist. Analyzing a website's performance grew far more detailed as digital marketers become more skilled.
Analysts no longer simply inquire, "How many individuals visited?" It's now just as crucial, if not more, to find out:
How long did they stay?
Bringing in a lot of traffic is pointless if people depart after a few seconds. Metrics like bounce rate and duration on page provide insight into how users behave.
What percentage of users made a purchase?
A huge audience is required for an internet business to thrive. However, it must also be the correct audience. The conversion rate, which measures how many customers buy things, indicates if an ecommerce company is efficiently promoting their product offers.
What is the cost of bringing in a visitor?
Although some web traffic is free, many online retailers rely on purchased traffic, such as PPC or affiliates, to maintain and develop their business. The two most essential ecommerce metrics
are undoubtedly the Cost of Acquiring Customers (CAC) and Cost Per Acquisition (CPA). When combined with AOV (average order value) and CLV (customer lifetime value), a company may review and modify its advertising expenditure as needed.
Website traffic is not the be-all and end-all of ecommerce success indicators. However, it is still a good starting point for determining the popularity and exposure of a website. Consider two contrasting underachievers in ecommerce:
a) Website A: Although effective call to actions and succinct yet expressive product descriptions convert a high percentage of visitors to sales, they only bring in a little amount of traffic.
500 monthly visitors multiplied by 40 sales equals 8% Rate of Conversion (CR)
b) Website B: ranks well in natural Google search results, publishes well-received content, and generates revenue through paid advertising. They perform admirably in terms of online traffic, but convert just a small percentage of visitors.
5000 visits, 40 purchases = 0.8% conversion rate
This example demonstrates why marketing indicators like web traffic cannot be considered in isolation. Two dissimilar websites attain the same result: they fail to capitalize on what they do.effectively. By concentrating on the one parameter in which they thrive, they fail to recognize areas for progress. Ecommerce companies provide the greatest possible experience to their.consumers while increasing income by evaluating the big picture and addressing areas of poor
performance.
Why Is Website Traffic Important?
Keeping track of your internet traffic is an excellent marketing tactic for your company. Website traffic is essential for a variety of reasons. The more visitors your site receives, the more prospective consumers you will have. The number of visitors to your website represents the
amount of possibilities for your company to make an impact, generate qualified leads, share your brand, and establish connections. Building connections and trust may ultimately lead to the sale of your product or service, the acquisition of new clients or customers, and the expansion of your business. More internet traffic does not only imply more money. More internet traffic may help your company grow, extend its product range, create new locations, and develop new services and products. Here are some of the most essential reasons why website traffic is vital:
Conversion Rates on Websites
By improving the quality of your website traffic and visits, you may improve your conversion rates. Website conversion rates are a critical aspect in the success of your online marketing strategy and business objectives. This implies you're convincing your visitors to do what you want them to do, whether it's attend your event, buy your product, sign up for your emails or mailings, get a quote, or sign a contract. Increasing your conversion rates reduces the amount of new visitors required to meet your objectives. It is not necessarily about the volume of visits to your website, but rather about the ones who are interested and end up completing a purchase.
Prospective Clientele
Capturing your target audience and converting them into customers is a key component of boosting the amount and quality of internet traffic visits to your site.
Increasing the Number of Visitors to Your Website
Many organizations may be asking how they may increase traffic to their website in order to keep it relevant and visible. Try to focus on outcomes rather than characteristics. Tell your potential consumers about the advantages your products or services will bring them. It is also advantageous to talk about your consumers rather than yourself. Concentrate on why your clients should care about your company and how you can assist them, rather than on how amazing you and your organization are.
Return Visitors
Make an effort to build your company's reputation based on the quality of your brand identity. It's also worth noting that returning visitors are valuable. People tend to stick with firms they know and trust. People are unlikely to randomly click on a product they searched for and buy it right away. They prefer to cling to what they are familiar with. Keep those repeat consumers updated on your offerings to remind them to buy from you. Maintaining repeat visits and obtaining potential leads and new clients both need a focus on your website traffic. Increase your website traffic, stay focused on your target audience, and
improve your website conversion rates. All of this and more will assist your website in becoming a successful website, and thus a successful business.
Free And Paid Methods For Increasing Your Website Traffic.
Traffic to your website helps to improve your rank, which generates more traffic, but you also want to ensure that the increase in traffic is accompanied by an increase in engagement. If your traffic is increasing but your conversion rates are decreasing, you're not bringing in the right traffic.
There are several ways to optimize your website for conversions, including placing calls to action and lead capture forms in strategic locations, providing the information your visitors seek, and making navigation simple and intuitive. The first step, however, is to draw the right visitors to your site in the first place. When it comes to website traffic, your goal is to bring in more qualified visitors. These are the people who are most likely to become leads or customers.
Quality traffic channels for your website
There is no one tool that can generate free and high-quality website traffic to your website. Rather, a variety of marketing channels collaborate to drive visitors. Some necessitate effort, while others necessitate time and money. The following are some of the strategies and channels that drive traffic to your website:
Listings in online directories
SEO on-page
SEO off-page
Social media via email
Online advertisements
Blogging
In the following section, we'll go over the most effective (and dependable) ways to increase website traffic for free.
Free methods to increase website traffic from Google
You can use Google to increase your website traffic for free in a few ways.
1. Make the most of your free Google Business Profile.
Did you know that an optimized Google business listing receives 7x the number of visits as an unoptimized one? Remember that your listing links to your website, so this is an excellent way to increase traffic to your website.
Keep in mind that Google's results pages are becoming increasingly intelligent. If your listing contains all of the information a potential customer requires to make a decision, they may bypass your website and contact/visit your business directly—which is preferable to a website visit!
Here are a few more features and benefits of Google Business Profiles that make it one of the best sources of quality website traffic.
Your Google page:
Is free and simple to set up.
Allows you to appear in searches related to your business and location.
Increases your visibility on a platform where users are interested in purchasing.
Brings qualified traffic to your website and store.
Allows customers to leave reviews, thereby increasing your visibility.
Also, remember that Google Business:
Allows your company to be found in mobile searches, which have surpassed desktop searches.
Uses visuals to give customers a sense of what it's like to work at your company, reducing uncertainty, which is a major barrier to entry.
Allows searchers to interact with your business directly from your listing, increasing the chances of engagement and acquiring new customers.
Given the numerous advantages of a Google Business listing, you simply cannot afford not to have one as a local business. Create your listing and keep it as up to date as possible.
2. Carry out on-page SEO
There are numerous SEO tactics you can use on each of your website pages to improve their search engine rankings and attract more visitors. Producing high-quality content that your audience is looking for and writing concise meta descriptions for your pages are examples of this. In search results, the meta description appears beneath your URL. Knowing what a page is about and what will result in a click increases the likelihood of users clicking. On-page SEO tactics like these are free, but they do take time.
Other free ways to increase website traffic
Here are 12 more steps you can take to boost your website traffic.
3.Post content in your website
Warning: you cannot increase website traffic without content. So, if you want to skip this section, go ahead! In 10 seconds, I'll see if you skip back up because you realized you can't do any of the other strategies without good, quality content.
Create a business blog.
First and foremost, your company requires a blog where you can publish useful, long-form content on a regular basis. This is unavoidable.
Businesses that blog receive 97% more links to their websites.
Businesses that blog receive 55% more website visitors than those that do not.
Bloggers are 13 times more likely to generate positive ROI.
blog statistics - how to increase website traffic
The more value you provide on your website, the more likely people will visit it. And without a blog, most of the other strategies in this post will be difficult to implement (or any post on this topic, for that matter).
Concentrate on topics that are timeless.
While news and trending topics can increase traffic temporarily, they are not worth the time and effort. Create content around topics that your audience will always be interested in. These evergreen posts will gain traffic and links over time, especially if they are refreshed on a regular basis (more on that later).
Create captivating headlines.
One of the most important aspects of your content is the headline. In fact, studies have shown that effective blog headlines can increase traffic by 500%. Even the most comprehensive blog post will go unread if it lacks a compelling headline. Learn the art of headline writing so that readers will select your post from the SERP.
Invite others to contribute to your blog as guest bloggers.
Guest authors can not only broaden your topics and perspectives, but they will also want to share the article with their network and link to it on their site, potentially bringing new readers to yours. Just be sure that you only post high-quality, original content without spammy links (lest you get a Google penalty and lose traffic). A standard set of guest posting guidelines can help with this and keep your content on brand.
Create stunning visuals
Use design tools like Canva to illustrate concepts, visualize data, and recreate charts in your branding. When other websites use your images, they will link back to your site. Furthermore, Google is displaying more images in regular Search results, giving you more opportunities to rank and increase the appeal (and thus click-through rate) of your result.
Incorporate video
Text-based content is fine, but video can attract more visitors and keep them engaged. Here are some examples of how to use video to increase website traffic:
Include videos in your blog posts so that they can be found in video search results.
To rank higher on YouTube, perform YouTube SEO, and then include links to your website in the video description.
Add call to action buttons directly in your video that send people to your site.
Establish a resource center.
Videos and blog posts aren't the only types of content you should be producing to educate and build trust with your audience. Don't overlook infographics, downloadable guides, templates, webinars, and other resources. As you create and use these lead magnets around the web, save them to a resources page. A multimedia content library will undoubtedly attract visitors who will return to your site again and again.
4. Register with online directories
Getting listed in free online directories and review sites is another way to increase traffic to your website. Because your profile on most of these sites will include a link to your website, actively updating these listings and receiving positive reviews is likely to result in increased website traffic. Furthermore, many directories, such as Yelp, have high domain authority on Google. There's a chance your company's free Yelp page will rank high in relevant searches.
5. Create backlinks
A backlink is a link from another website to yours. Backlinks from complementary businesses or industry influencers will not only increase the visibility of your company but will also drive qualified traffic to your website. Furthermore, Google detects backlinks and will increase its trust in your company if it notices other trustworthy websites pointing to yours. More Google trust leads to higher rankings, which leads to more traffic. Quality backlinks will help you get noticed on Google for free.
6. Share on social media
Social media is one of the most popular free marketing tools available, and it can help drive traffic to your website. Promote blog posts and other useful pages on your website via Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. If you post shareable content, you can convert your social media followers into website visitors and draw traffic from their networks. One of the advantages of social media marketing is the increased traffic to your website. Here are a few ideas for converting these massive platforms into traffic generators for your website.
Share your content on social media.
It is not enough to create excellent content and hope that people discover it. Promote your content on your target audience's most popular social media channels. Twitter is great for short, snappy (and enticing) links, whereas Google Business posts can help your site appear in local search results. If you're a B2C product company, image-heavy social sites like Pinterest and Instagram could help you get a lot of traction. Not only will this increase traffic to your site, but the more eyes on your content you get, the more likely you are to get those backlinks we just discussed.
Include hashtags.
Include relevant hashtags when sharing your content on LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, and other hashtag-friendly sites to increase the reach of your posts. However, keep the hashtags highly specific to the topic of the post in order to be discovered by people who are most likely to read, share, and/or link to your content. Everything you need to know about Instagram hashtags can be found in our guide.
Target amplifiers
Who Will Amplify This? by Rand Fishkin is an excellent book. In his post, And Why? He makes an excellent point about creating content for potential amplifiers, not just potential customers. Amplifiers of this type include:
Trade journals, news sites, major brand blogs, and social influencers are examples of industry publications.
External sources of influence include mainstream media journalists and social influencers outside of your field.
Customer evangelists are people in your industry who use and recommend you.
Potential evangelists include customers with large networks and followings, as well as well-read publications.

Post original LinkedIn content.
LinkedIn, the world's largest professional social network, is a valuable publishing platform in and of itself, so you should be posting content there on a regular basis. This can increase traffic to your website, drive more visitors to your LinkedIn Company Page, and improve your reputation in your industry. And you don't have to reinvent the wheel—write a reflection piece on a recent topic or repurpose content you've already written.
Interview thought leaders in the industry
Think interviews are only for the big leaguers? Think again. You'd be surprised how many people are willing to talk to you if you just ask. Send out emails requesting interviews with industry thought leaders, and then publish the interviews on your blog. Not only will the name recognition increase your credibility and traffic to your website, but the interviewee will most likely share the content as well, expanding its reach even further.
Include social share buttons.
This is a simple website traffic win.Social share buttons enable readers to quickly share the page they're reading with their social networks.
Another option is the click-to-Tweet feature, which allows readers to publish a pre-written Tweet with a single click.
Investigate the competition.
You're at a disadvantage if you haven't used software like BuzzSumo to see what your competitors are up to. These services aggregate the social performance of specific sites and content to give you a quick snapshot of which topics are resonating with readers and, more importantly, making the rounds on social media. Learn what people are reading (and talking about) and use that content to drive traffic to your website. Post at the appropriate time
If you want to get into the weeds, you can look at your social media analytics to see what times of day and week get the most engagement from your audience and then share your blog post links at those times. Begin with the overall average best times and work your way through the data to refine from there.
Creating useful content is free and not as difficult as it may appear. You are the expert on your product/service; your job is to make it understandable to your audience.
7. Incorporate hashtags into your posts.
By adding hashtags to posts that promote your website pages and blog posts, you can extend your reach beyond your network and get discovered by users searching for your products and services. The more people who click on your links, the more free traffic you'll get to your website.
8. Make use of landing pages
Landing pages are yet another free way to drive traffic to your website. These are pages dedicated to your offers, such as redeeming a coupon code, downloading a free guide, or beginning a free trial. They contain the information users require to move forward and convert, as well as focus on one specific call to action, making it more likely to occur. Because landing pages are so specific, you can get very specific with your messaging, which increases traffic (and conversions) to those pages.
9. Concentrate on long-tail keywords
While short-tail keywords are frequently searched, ranking for them on search engines is more difficult. Long-tail keywords, on the other hand, increase your chances of ranking higher (even on the first page) for queries related to your products and services—and higher ranking means more traffic.
Furthermore, as search engines and voice search capabilities improve, people are searching for more specific phrases online. Many free tools are available to assist you in finding keywords to target, including WordStream's free keyword tool and H-Supertools' free keyword research tool.
10. Begin email marketing.
Sending out regular newsletters and email promotions is a great way to stay in touch with your customers and can also help drive traffic to your website. Provide relevant information as well as links to pages on your website where they can learn more, such as blog posts and landing pages for specific offers.
Just make sure you aren't constantly bombarding your readers with emails, or they will disengage, delete, or unsubscribe from your emails.
Also, consider your email subject lines carefully. These have a significant impact on whether or not a user opens your email. If your emails are never opened, they cannot drive traffic to your website!
11. Publish Guest Posts
Having an industry influencer publish a blog post on your site or turning an interview with them into a blog post can help to drive traffic both organically and through the influencer's audience (see the backlinks section above). This can also help to diversify your content and demonstrate to your visitors that you are active in your field.
Alternatively, you could request that the influencer include your company in their own review or round-up post. This method is still free, but you still need the collaboration with the influencer to be an exchange with mutual benefit. You can also contribute as a guest blogger. Determine complementary businesses in your area whose audiences are relevant to yours. See if you can write a post for their blog that includes a link to your website. Make your content relevant and useful to their audience to ensure a more even exchange.
12. Participate in online activities
Being active in online groups and on websites relevant to your business and community is free, and it helps you get more traffic. Comment on blogs and social media posts, respond to questions, and join conversations about your industry. The more you participate in your community, the more exposure and profile visits you will receive. If you include a link to your website on your social media profiles, you've turned your engagement into another source of website traffic. Simply engage in a moderate and sincere manner, and avoid including links to your website in your comments, lest you appear spammy and harm your online and business reputation. Increased traffic should be a byproduct of your engagement, not the primary goal.
13. Take notes from your analytics to help increase website traffic
Google Analytics is completely free to use, and the insights it provides can help you drive more traffic to your website. Use tracked links in your marketing campaigns and monitor your website analytics on a regular basis. This will allow you to determine which strategies and content types work, which require improvement, and which should be avoided.
14.How to Use SEO to Increase Website Traffic
So all of the above strategies have one flaw. They won't bring traffic to your site if no one can find them. With Google's first page capturing 71% of search traffic clicks, you need an SEO strategy.
SEO is the practice of optimizing a site for search engines (hence search engine optimization) so it can be more visible in search results for relevant queries. An SEO strategy is a completely different beast, but here are the SEO fundamentals.
Keywords to target...
Keywords are the words and phrases that people type into search engines, and as you might expect, some keywords are searched more frequently than others. Using keyword research tools, you can see that the keyword "how to increase website engagement" only receives about 10 searches per month, whereas the keyword "how to increase website traffic" receives 300 searches.
If you want to increase traffic, the latter is a better blog post topic.
...keywords with long tails
So, the higher the search volume, the higher the potential traffic, right? Not so quickly. Many extremely popular keywords are also extremely broad and difficult to rank for (for example, "website" has a volume of 143,000). Long-tail keywords, on the other hand, are easier to rank for and will give you the most relevant traffic.
Strategically place your keywords.
This is the foundation of on-page SEO—optimizing your content so that search engines can understand it and rank it in relevant searches. Make sure to include your target keyword in the following places:
Tag title (meta title)
Heading 1
At least two H2 titles
The first 100 words occur naturally in the body.
File names and alt text for images
Improve your SERP visibility.
Simply including the keyword in your meta description and meta title is insufficient. You must optimize these critical pieces of information in order to increase their appeal on the SERP and encourage more organic clicks.
Keep this between 155-165 characters long, indicate the value the reader will gain from the post, and make it actionable.
Make the meta title 60 characters or less in length, with the keyword near the beginning, and indicate some sort of value or benefit.
Internal link
When creating and publishing content, include at least 1-3 links to other pages on your site. This not only increases traffic to those pages, but it also (a) keeps visitors on your site longer, (b) encourages them to view more pages on your site, and (c) allows them to get more value out of your site—all of which improve your ranking and drive more traffic to your website.
Increase the speed of your website.
Have you ever waited thirty seconds for a web page to load? Neither do I. If your site takes an eternity to load, your bounce rate will be extremely high. With the page experience update, speed has become even more of a ranking factor. Make sure your pages are as technically optimized as possible, including image file sizes, page structure, and third-party plugin functionality. The more quickly your site loads, the better.
Google's PageSpeed Insights tool will provide you with a score for your site's performance as well as recommendations for improving your Core Web Vitals and other factors. Use it!
pagespeed insights tool - how to increase traffic to your website
Make your website mobile-friendly.
Today, mobile traffic outnumbers desktop traffic, so forcing visitors to pinch and scroll their way around your site is essentially telling them to go elsewhere. Even if you have a simple website, you must ensure that it is accessible and comfortable to view on a variety of devices, including smaller smartphones.
Make use of Schema markup.
Implementing Schema markup (or another microdata format) on your website will not necessarily increase traffic, but it will make it easier for search engine bots to find and index your pages. Another advantage of using schema for SEO is that it can lead to better rich site snippets, which can increase click-through rates.
Keep your content up to date.
Even the most evergreen content fades with time, and content freshness is a ranking factor. Even if your post is still on Google's first page, you'd be surprised what a content refresh can do. A new SERP publish date can significantly increase CTR and move you up a few positions, resulting in an increase in traffic.
But you can't just change a few words and then update your post's publish date. Google is smarter than that. Here are some strategies from my post on increasing traffic from evergreen content:Hi
Update and/or add new data and statistics.
To illustrate concepts, replace outdated visuals and/or create new ones.
Update existing links to more recent resources.
Repair any broken links or images.
In Search Console, add new keywords from the query report (more on that later).
Tweak your meta title and meta description.
Obtain backlinks
The quantity and quality of links to your website are two of the most important Google ranking factors. The more links you have from credible sites with high Domain Authority, the higher your own Domain Authority will rise. The higher your DA, the higher your rank, and the more traffic you receive—not to mention any traffic you receive from the link itself.
Paid methods to increase website traffic from Google
Paid Google advertising is an excellent way to bring people to your website who are looking for the services you offer.
15.Google Adsense
You pay Google Ads to have your website (usually a landing page) appear at the top of search results for specific keywords. When a query using those keywords is entered, Google examines all accounts bidding on those keywords and displays and ranks the paid results based on the quality and relevance of the advertisement.
Paid search results appear first, near the top of the results pages. This type of exposure is an excellent way to drive more qualified visitors to your website. Furthermore, you only pay when someone clicks on your ad.
16.Advertisement on Google Maps
You can also specify preferences through the Google Ads platform so that your company appears at the top of Google Maps search results.
As with regular paid search ads, there will be a notice next to your listing indicating that it is a paid result, but the exposure gained by appearing at the top is priceless.
17. Advertising on social media
While search advertising pays to appear at the top of relevant search results, social media advertising pays to appear in relevant feeds. Both types of advertising allow you to specify the type of audience in front of which you want to appear, but social media offers superior targeting due to more psychographic data.
18. Public display advertising
Display ads are branded banner advertisements that appear on relevant websites. If you are a fitness company and your ad appears on a page about athletic equipment, your ad is likely to drive relevant traffic to your website.
19.Retargeting
Ads for retargeting can appear on websites or in social media feeds. They are shown to people who have already visited your site once and are thus more likely to return.
Website traffic generation strategy which must be avoided.
Avoid using website traffic generators that generate traffic instantly.
There is such a thing as free website traffic, but there is no magic button or tool that generates it without your involvement. Here are three reasons to avoid using an automatic website traffic generator for your business, whether paid or free:
Automatic website traffic generators can harm your search engine rankings.
Google can detect spammy behavior, detects activity spikes, and monitors how users interact with your website. Using an automated traffic bot or generator is likely to attract the wrong kind of attention from Google, harming your reputation and thus your ranking.
Your visitors will not be targeted.
The ultimate goal of increasing the number of people who interact with (and hopefully become customers of) your business by increasing the number of visitors to your website and ranking higher on Google. If your visitors aren't targeted, they're less likely to engage with your website, and your lead and conversion rates are more likely to suffer.
Your website may be blocked.
If your website receives bot traffic, you risk being blocked from online advertising platforms or, worse, being removed from Google. Cheap website traffic is not a good investment! Take the time to build high-quality, long-term traffic to your website.
As previously stated, increasing traffic to your website is pointless if those visitors are unlikely to engage with your pages, convert into leads, or become customers. It takes time to increase your website traffic. It takes work, but the effort you put in will be proportional to the quality of traffic you generate.
Plus, we've taken care of the difficult part for you: deciding what to do in the first place. You can get the right visitors to your site and, more importantly, more of those visitors to convert into customers by using Google My Business and the other safe channels listed above.
Tools for increasing website traffic

This can help you ensure that your pages are ranking for the keywords you want to target, find new keywords to add to an existing page, and find new keywords to target altogether. In GSC, you can also see the organic click-through rate and troubleshoot indexing issues.
Using SEO tools, examine the SERPs.
